## How it works

Add your estimated model delay, one-way transport time, playback buffer and decode/display delay. This planning budget uses inputs you supply; the result is an estimate. Control acknowledgements and generation-window boundaries can add delay that needs separate measurement.

1. Enter estimates for generation and one-way network delay.
2. Specify buffered frames, playback FPS and decoding/display time.
3. Use the component breakdown to choose what to measure and reduce first.

## FAQ

### How do I calculate a video latency budget?

Add generation delay, one-way transport delay, buffering and decode/display time. Measure the end-to-end visible result separately to confirm the estimate.

### Can I use ping as the one-way transport delay?

Ping reports round-trip time. Half of it is only an approximation of one-way latency and depends on route symmetry and other conditions.
